These Oreo balls are a decadent sweet treat that combines Oreos, cream cheese, and melted chocolate to create bite-sized truffles that are perfect for your next holiday tray or family gathering.

I am not a fancy person. Most of the recipes I create turn out “rustic” and most definitely homemade. These Oreo balls are no different. You won’t find store-bought smooth chocolate coating or perfectly straight drizzles on top. But what you will find is a sweet treat that is so good that the appearance won’t even matter!
While these aren’t technically “truffle chocolates”, they resemble them in both flavor and appearance. The Oreo balls feature a harder white chocolate coating and a smooth, creamy middle, all while providing that iconic Oreo cookie flavor.
This recipe only requires three main ingredients: Oreos, cream cheese, and a melting chocolate of some sort. You can play around with what type of Oreo cookies you use, the type of melting chocolate, and the decorations or drizzle.

It’s really an open-ended recipe that you can make for your preferences. Need a quick treat for your next Christmas dessert tray? Top the truffles with red and green sprinkles for a festive holiday feel. In charge of desserts for a 4th of July backyard barbecue? Decorate the tops with red and blue drizzles and popping candy. There really are no rules!
No matter what you use to decorate these Oreo balls or what flavor of cookies you use, just don’t be surprised if they go fast!
How To Make Oreo Balls (Truffles)
*Scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the full recipe, including exact measurements and amounts. You can also print out the instructions. I go into a bit more detail about the recipe here first, just in case you need it.

Ingredients
- Oreo Cookies – The easiest Oreo cookies to use are the regular ones. However, I have used “Double Stuf” Oreos on multiple occasions with no issues. They just create a richer, more moist center and may be slightly more difficult to form and coat. You can also swap things up and use “Golden Oreos” or try some of the fun seasonal flavored cookies.
- Cream Cheese – The cream cheese mixed with the Oreos creates the smooth center of the truffle. Use a block of cream cheese instead of the spreadable ones. Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature or soften for easier mixing.
- Melting Chocolate – I like to use vanilla and chocolate almond bark for this part of the recipe, but you can use any type of melting chocolate you prefer. Skip using chocolate chips because they won’t have the same consistency as chocolate that is specifically meant for melting and coating.
- Optional Toppings – Instead of using chocolate almond bark for the drizzle, try other toppings like crushed up Oreo cookies, sprinkles, popping candy, etc. The items you use for the topping can really change the look and festive feel of the Oreo balls (truffles).
Instructions For Oreo Balls (Truffles)
Empty a family-sized package of Oreo cookies into a food processor or a high-powered blender. Add the softened cream cheese. Pulse the mixture a few times and then blend until the two are completely mixed together. It should look like a thick paste. You might need to stop and scrape the sides with a spatula to make sure everything is well incorporated.

If you don’t have a food processor or blender, you can place the Oreos in a gallon-sized zip-lock bag. Use a rolling pin, kitchen mallet, or the end of a spoon handle to crush the cookies into small pieces. The smaller the pieces, the better. Then add the crushed Oreos to the softened cream cheese and mix well.
Scoop out the Oreo mixture using a 1.5 tablespoon cookie scoop or smaller. Place the scoops onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the baking sheet into the refrigerator to firm up for about an hour. Alternatively, freeze them for 30 minutes. (Here is the cookie scoop I have and love – Product Link: PrepSolutions Measuring Scoop.)
When using a 1.5 tablespoon scoop, you should be able to get about 25 Oreo balls from the mixture. Obviously, using a smaller scoop will result in more truffles.
After they are fairly firm, gently roll them between your hands to create a more uniform and smooth texture. Place them back in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes if they soften too much during this process.

Coating The Truffles
In a small bowl, melt the vanilla almond bark or white melting chocolate – whichever you are using. Follow the package directions so you don’t overheat it. If the chocolate or bark seems a little too thick, stir in a small amount of coconut or vegetable oil after it is melted to thin it out a bit.
Allow the melted chocolate to cool slightly. One at a time, dip the Oreo balls in the melted almond bark to fully coat each one. Place the coated Oreo balls back on the parchment paper. (It’s ok if they are a bit messy like mine!)
If you are adding sprinkles or another topping that needs to stick to the almond bark or white chocolate, do it before the chocolate hardens. Otherwise, allow the white chocolate to set if you are adding a drizzle of chocolate over the top. This takes about 15 minutes or so.
For the drizzle, melt a little bit of chocolate almond bark or melting chocolate and drizzle it over the Oreo balls. Again, add a little bit of coconut or vegetable oil if needed to thin the chocolate slightly after it is melted, if desired
Don’t keep the Oreo balls (truffles) at room temperature for too long since there is cream cheese in the mixture. Store any leftovers in an enclosed container in the refrigerator for about two weeks. Enjoy!
