If you are looking for gift ideas for that special someone in your life that might be hard to buy for, then my 2024 gift guide will have you covered!
Around this time of year, I always like to include a little gift guide that includes some of my personal favorite items and tools from throughout the year. I include all sorts of different products for that gardener, chef, baker, chicken momma, or semi homesteader in your life – or anyone who might be a bit more difficult to buy for (you know who you are!).

Unlike some gift guides that you see online that are just a random assortment of “top gifts” that may or may not be useful or practical, the items in this list are all ones that I have personally used and love. They will range in price from around $20 and up, so there’s a little something for everyone.
I will also link to articles where I’ve either talked about these items specifically or that I’ve used them in my day-to-day life. That way, you can see that they aren’t just items thrown together just to try to make a sale or two (although I always appreciate any time you purchase something through my links – just being honest!).
Even if you donโt get any of the items, hopefully it will help get the ideas rolling if you are on the hunt for Christmas gift ideas for that special friend or family member in your life. Or heck, treat yourself to a new purchase or two while you are at it!
My 2024 Gift Guide For Semi Homesteaders
Favorite Kitchen Items
I want to start with my favorite kitchen items. These are all items that I use on almost a daily basis and that have passed the test of time (and abuse!).
Luminarc Stackable Mixing Bowls
First up is my favorite set of mixing bowls from Luminarc . They come in a set of 10 and include sizes from 2-1/4 inches in diameter up to 10-1/4 in diameter. When you aren’t using them, they all stack together nicely. (Product Link: Luminarc Stackable Bowl 10-Piece Set)

The bowls are microwave and dishwasher safe. They work great for mixing and prepping and they don’t stain or warp.
I use them pretty much any time I am mixing up ingredients for baking, when I am preparing sourdough or yeast goodies, or when I am prepping and storing a recipe like my Simple Tomato, Cucumber, And Onion Salad. I even use them for tasks like tempering chocolate for scotcharoos. They are definitely my favorite must-have kitchen product!
As far as the company is concerned, Luminarc products are made in the USA. They are well-known for their high-quality glass products. That’s something that can be hard to come by nowadays.
Lodge Cast Iron Skillet
If you’ve been following my articles this year, then you know just how much I love cooking with cast iron skillets. It’s been a long time since I’ve cooked with anything else. Whether it’s making rustic Baking Powder Biscuits, frying up some Mississippi Smash Burgers, or sauteeing some Garlic Butter Zucchini Mash, using cast iron is the way to go!
While I’d love to link up an old, well-loved vintage or antique cast iron skillet, I haven’t figured out how to do that yet! But if you have access to a local estate sale or antique shop, then purchasing an old cast iron skillet is definitely the way to go.

However, another great option is purchasing an inexpensive modern-day cast iron skillet. For this option, Lodge is the company I would suggest. Lodge is another company that has been in business since 1896. Their products are also all made in the USA. (Product Link: Lodge 12″ Cast Iron Skillet with Red Silicone Hot Handle Holder)
The sizes I use most often are the 10.25″ and 12″ cast iron skillets. However, they have even larger skillets you can purchase as well as smaller skillets.

Favorite Gardening Items – 2024 Gift Guide
10-Gallon Grow Bags
There are many times when you might want to grow something and just don’t have the space or time to maintain a full-fledged garden or raised bed. Or, maybe you are like me and do have a garden and raised beds but want to fill in the extra spaces with even more plants?

That’s where grow bags can come into play. I have five 10-gallon grow bags that I use to grow all sorts of additional plants each summer. Most often, I use them to grow seed potatoes. However, I have grown other crops successfully as well. (Product Link: 10 Gallon Plant Grow Bags)
You can use them to grow lettuce, carrots, peas, flowers, herbs, and all sorts of other smaller crops. But, since these bags have a 10-gallon capacity, they are also perfect for growing tomato plants, pepper plants, or even a couple of cucumber plants as long as you also use some sort of trellis or support.
Honestly, the sky is the limit with these grow bags. You can place them almost anywhere that receives sufficient light. Just treat them just like you would other pots or containers. They are inexpensive, reusable, and make growing on small apartment patios or decks possible.
Fiskar Pruners
I can’t have a gift guide without mentioning my absolute favorite pruning tools. Both are products from Fiskars, a well-known company that has been around since 1649. (They also make my favorite crafting scissors, but that’s another product for another day!)

First is the Fiskar micro pruners. They are so small and lightweight that they are perfect for bringing out to the garden for those daily garden checks. (Product Link: Fiskars Micro-Tip Pruning Snips)
Even though they look tiny, they can help tackle all sorts of garden tasks like deadheading flowers, pruning tomatoes, harvesting cucumbers, etc. They even come with a little protective cover so you can keep them in your pocket without worrying about stabbing yourself accidentally. (Not that it’s ever happened to me or anything . . .)
Another favorite is the Bypass Pruners. They are a little bigger and can handle some of the thicker pruning or harvesting. Between those two products, almost all jobs aside from pruning trees and maybe harvesting large pumpkins can be handled easily. (Product Link: Fiskars Bypass Pruning Shears)
Favorite Chicken Raising Items – 2024 Gift Guide
Heated Chicken Waterer
With living in the midwest, we have to deal with all sorts of weather conditions and temperatures. One of my favorite products for making my life easier as well as improving the living conditions for my girls is my insulated and heated waterer.

No, it isn’t the cheapest one available, but the benefits more than outweigh the cost in no time at all. (Note, I have an older version that doesn’t include the refill cap but I love it still the same.) (Product Link: Premier 1 All-Season Heated Poultry Waterer)
First off, it keeps the water clear and clean. There is no worry about sand or feces getting into the water causing even bigger issues. Second, it works great for year-round use.
During the summer months, the temperatures rise to the triple digits sometimes. This insulated waterer is perfect for helping to keep their water nice and cool. I will often freeze a small block of water and add that into the waterer. The insulation keeps the ice frozen for hours, allowing me to worry less about the girls overheating.
But the real reason why I love this waterer is because it is heated during the winter months. With days on end that go way beyond freezing temperatures here in Illinois, this waterer is a life-saver. Not only does it keep their water at a consistent temperature, but it prevents me from needing to take trip after trip out to their run to chop out frozen chunks of water.
Washable Nesting Pads
Last up on my Gift Guide for 2024 is reusable nesting pads. I have had many people ask me how I keep my chicken eggs so clean and poop-free. The answer is these washable, made-in-the-USA nesting pads. (Product Link: Duncan’s Chicken Nesting Pads, 6 Pack)

It might be tempting to use a product that is soft and squishy for chickens to lay their eggs on. The fact is that it just isn’t needed. Not only can organic materials like straw and wood chips harbor mites and lice, but they also can pile up mud, sand, and waste as well as moisture.
The design of these nesting pads allows the sand, waste, and dirt to flow through the pads while keeping the eggs fresh and clean on top. If the pads do get dirty (which happens from time to time), I can simply swap them out with a different pad and wash the dirty one.
As an added bonus, the pads can be trimmed down to fit into whatever nesting box space you have. I trimmed mine down and put them in paint trays to keep our nest boxes even cleaner. (You can read about two of my other favorite chicken-raising products here, “4 Must-Have Products For Raising Chickens For Busy Families“.)
Well, there you have it, my Gift Guide for 2024. I could honestly give you a ton more suggestions for great products, but these six will have to do for this year. I hope this sparks some ideas and inspiration for you this holiday season!
Until next time, thanks for stopping by!
